Destiny 2: Beyond Light Trailer Reveals "Hunting Season," Bungie Promises Less FOMO

Today is "Vidoc" day in Destiny 2, so Bungie has released a commentary video summarizing the main features and highlights of the upcoming expansion "Beyond Light". Most of it touches on what we've already seen: Europa and the secrets hidden beneath the ice, new exotic weapons and armor, the new subclass Stasis, which freezes enemies to pieces, and a new antagonist, the Fallen leader Eramis. It also reveals a few things we didn't know, such as that the sound of throwing ice comes from the rumbling of a tummy and a breast milk pump.

Toward the end, however, Bungie unveiled Destiny 2's next season, Season of the Hunt.

Starting on November 17, a week after Beyond Light's release, the season's story will focus on a character familiar to Destiny 2 lore geeks: one of Oryx's two sisters, Jiv Alas, the Hive's war god. Players will also encounter the newly resurrected Uldren Sorb, the main antagonist of the Forsaken expansion and now a Guardian with no memory of his past. [Season of the Hunt] will introduce an activity called "Wrathborn Hunt" in addition to the storyline. This activity is likely to take place in the underutilized "Dreaming City," which is currently one of the best locations in Destiny 2, despite being one of the best locations in the game.

Bungie has already made it clear that they are directly addressing complaints about Year 3's seasonal model and the fact that all seasonal activities and rewards disappear at the end of each season." Starting with the "Season of Hunt," Bungie's post explains, "the majority of seasonal content and suite gear will survive into the fourth year. This will hopefully alleviate some of the FOMO that has occurred in past seasons. This will allow players to experience the stories, activities, and loot of past seasons anytime in the fourth year.

Bungie has also released a roadmap for Season of the Hunt. The season's main storyline and activities will not begin until November 17, but the season's Battle Pass and artifact rank-ups can begin upon the release of Beyond Light. After that, the expansion's new raid will also be available on November 21.
